Sheet metal shops working on Jacksonville permits need one $5,000 bond for the company, not a bond for every duct or flashing job. It is a yearly premium, quick to issue, and it goes in with your City registration.
Under Fla. Stat. 489.131(3)(e), Jacksonville may require each contractor to post one bond of up to $5,000. For sheet metal contractors, that bond is conditioned only on compliance with the Florida Building Code, is payable to the Florida Homeowners' Construction Recovery Fund, and is filed with the City where permits are requested.

Section 489.131(3)(e) of the Florida Statutes permits a municipality to require one bond for each contractor, in an amount not to exceed $5,000. The only condition is compliance with the Florida Building Code adopted under section 553.73. The bond is payable to the Florida Homeowners' Construction Recovery Fund, not the City, and it is filed in each county or municipality where a building permit is requested. It does not guarantee a particular contract and it is not posted per job.
The City of Jacksonville Construction Trades Qualifying Board lists sheet metal among the trades it regulates under Chapters 62 and 342 of the Ordinance Code and Chapter 489, Parts I and II, Florida Statutes. The Board reviews competency, financial responsibility, credit and insurance qualifications. Its published fees include a $75 contractor certificate application fee, a $65 contractor and administration examination, and a $160 contractor certificate renewal. Renewing late costs a double fee for each late cycle plus the application fee.
The Building Inspection Division registers license holders in JaxEPICS. Its registration form requires a copy of your valid state construction certificate, picture identification, and either a workers' compensation certificate naming the City of Jacksonville as certificate holder or a Certificate of Election to be Exempt (Form DWC-252). Confirm the current bond form and filing steps with the Building Inspection Division before the bond is issued.
The surety sets the yearly premium mostly from the owner's personal credit and the company's history.
