Hazel Park sets the right of way bond amount project by project, and its permit application has a line for whether a surety bond is already in place. A contractor or utility with a surety bond on file with the city is ready when the permit is reviewed, instead of tying up cash on every approach, sidewalk or sewer tap job.
The City of Hazel Park requires security before it issues a right of way permit for work such as drive approaches, fiber optic, sewer taps and repairs, sidewalks, streets and utilities. The Building Department sets the bond amount for each project, notes on the permit whether a surety bond is currently in place, and can require a revised bond amount if the project changes. The bond runs to the City of Hazel Park and backs the applicant's promise to restore the right of way and repair any damage.

There is no single posted figure for a Hazel Park right of way bond. The city's Right of Way Permit Application says the bond is in an amount specified by the City, and the City Use Only section of the form records the security for each permit, including whether a surety bond is currently in place. The same form warns that changes to a project may result in a revised bond amount, so the figure can move if the scope of work grows.
The application covers anyone who will construct, operate, use, replace or maintain something within the City of Hazel Park right of way. The work types listed on the form are drive approaches, fiber optic, sewer tap and repair, sidewalk, street and utility work.
The bond backs the promises the applicant signs on the permit. Those include getting city approval before work starts, giving the Hazel Park Building Department written notice at least two business days before starting, keeping the permit and approved plans on site, taking the precautions needed to prevent injury or damage, removing or relocating the work at the applicant's expense if the city requests it, and preventing or fixing any damage, debris or other mess left by the work. When the job is finished to the city's satisfaction, the city can recover its own expenses on the project before releasing the security.
The applicant agrees to hold the City of Hazel Park harmless for $1,000,000 personal injury and $1,000,000 property damage, and lists its workers compensation carrier on the form. Effective March 31, 2026, the right of way permit application fee is $50.00 and nonrefundable. Contractors also register with the city, and the Building Department lists contractor registration at $15.00. If the city assigns an on site inspector, the applicant pays those added costs, including overtime. Call MISS DIG at 811 at least 24 hours before digging.
Ask the Hazel Park Building Department, 111 E. Nine Mile Road, (248) 546-4075, for the bond amount it has set for your project and the bond form it wants, then have the surety issue the bond in that exact amount with the City of Hazel Park as obligee.
The city sets it for each project. The Right of Way Permit Application says the bond is in an amount specified by the City, and a change in the project can lead to a revised bond amount. Get the figure from the Building Department before ordering the bond.
The City Use Only section of the permit application has a line for Surety bond currently in place, which the city marks when it reviews the permit. Ask the Building Department whether your bond on file covers the project and its amount.
Anything built, operated, used, replaced or maintained in the Hazel Park right of way. The application lists drive approaches, fiber optic, sewer taps and repairs, sidewalks, streets and utility work.

The surety looks at the owner's credit, the company's financial strength and experience with right of way work, and the bond amount the city specifies. Because the amount changes from project to project, so does the premium.
