Before buying this $100 bond, check who is asking for it. Florida's current concealed weapon license comes from the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and the 2025 statute does not call for a bond. If a county office or another obligee has specifically requested the $100 instrument, this page explains where it comes from and what it guarantees.
The $100 Palm Beach County firearms permit bond comes from Florida's older county license to carry, which required a bond payable to the Governor in the sum of one hundred dollars, with sureties approved by the county commissioners. The current text of Fla. Stat. 790.06 moved licensing to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, which issues a 7 year statewide license, and the statute no longer contains a bond requirement.

Florida once licensed the carrying of firearms at the county level. Attorney General Opinion 75-310, issued December 21, 1975 under the title Bonding requirements and firearms permit, quotes the statute then in force at section 790.06. It required the applicant to give a bond payable to the Governor of the state in the sum of one hundred dollars, with sureties approved by the county commissioners. That is the instrument listed on this page.
The 2025 Florida Statutes take a different approach. Under Fla. Stat. 790.06(1)(b), the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is authorized to issue licenses to carry concealed weapons or concealed firearms. A license is valid statewide for 7 years. The statute sets a nonrefundable fee of up to $55 for a first license and up to $45 for a renewal, plus fingerprint processing costs. The current section does not contain a bond requirement, and the older county licensing section 790.05 no longer appears in Chapter 790.
If a Palm Beach County office or another obligee has asked you for the $100 firearms permit bond, confirm the exact purpose, the bond form and the named obligee with that office before the bond is issued. The surety guarantees that the principal will follow the conditions written into the bond, and the premium is set by the surety after a short review.
The 2025 text of Fla. Stat. 790.06 assigns licensing to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and does not include a bond. The $100 bond comes from the older county license to carry described in AGO 75-310.
AGO 75-310 quotes the old statute as requiring a bond payable to the Governor, with sureties approved by the county commissioners.
Under Fla. Stat. 790.06(1)(c), a license is valid statewide for 7 years from the date of issuance.
