Abilene will not issue a driveway, sidewalk, curb or gutter permit until it has a $1,000 Street Contractor's Bond on file. It is a small bond with a calendar year term, and it is separate from the city's building contractor bond, so having one does not cover the other.
The City of Abilene, Texas requires the owner or contractor to provide a $1,000 Street Contractor's Bond to obtain a permit for driveway, sidewalk, curb and gutter work. The bond runs to the City of Abilene and must expire by December 31 of the current year. The city points out that this is not the same as its Contractor's Bond.

The bond must expire by December 31 of the current year. A bond bought in the fall covers only the rest of that year, so plan to renew each January if you do this work regularly.
