Findlay does not bond each curb cut separately. One $5,000 License or Permit Bond, filed with the Engineering Department, covers your sidewalk, driveway and curb cut installation work for the calendar year. Buy it once, attach the original to your installer license application, and renew it each January with a continuation certificate instead of a new bond.
The City of Findlay requires a $5,000 License or Permit Bond from any contractor licensed to install or construct sidewalks and driveway or curb cuts in the city. The bond names the City of Findlay as obligee, runs from January 1 to December 31, and is filed in original form with the Sidewalk/Driveway/Curb Cut Installer License Application and the $25 application fee.

The most common mistake with this bond is the term. Findlay's installer license is good for a calendar year and expires on December 31. The bond has to match. The Engineering Department's application states the bond must be for a period of one year beginning January 1 and expiring December 31. A contractor who buys a bond in June still has a license and bond that expire at the end of December, so plan the renewal for the start of each year.
The City of Findlay's License or Permit Bond form sets a penal sum of $5,000 and binds the contractor, as principal, and the surety to the City of Findlay. The contractor must indemnify the city against any loss directly arising from a failure to comply with the laws, ordinances, resolutions, rules and regulations governing the business of installing or constructing sidewalks and driveway or curb cuts. It is a blanket license bond. One bond stands behind every curb cut, driveway approach and sidewalk section you install under the license during the year.
The bond goes to the City of Findlay Engineering Department at 318 Dorney Plaza, Room 304, with the Sidewalk/Driveway/Curb Cut Installer License Application. The city asks for the original bond or a continuation certificate, signed by the insurance company and by the principal where required, along with a $25 application fee made payable to the City of Findlay. Sample bond forms are available from the Engineering Department on request.
The city's bond form lets the surety end its liability by serving written notice on the city ten days in advance. If your surety cancels, the city loses its security for your license, so replace the bond before the notice period runs out.
Cutting into the pavement of a city street is handled on Findlay's separate Application for Street Opening Permit, which carries its own cash or performance bond requirement. Confirm with the Engineering Department which filings your particular job needs before work starts.
No. The $5,000 License or Permit Bond is tied to your installer license, not to a single job. It covers your sidewalk, driveway and curb cut work in the city for the calendar year it is written for.
December 31. The City of Findlay requires the bond to run from January 1 to December 31, matching the installer license, which also expires on December 31 regardless of when it was issued.
Renew the installer license for the new year and file a continuation certificate from your surety with the Engineering Department. The city accepts either an original bond or a continuation certificate with the application.
The City of Findlay charges a $25 application fee for the Sidewalk/Driveway/Curb Cut Installer License. The bond premium is a separate cost paid to the surety.
The surety prices the bond on the $5,000 penal sum and its underwriting of the business owner, chiefly personal credit and claims history. The premium is paid for the annual term that ends December 31.
Yes. The city's bond form allows the surety to terminate its liability by giving the City of Findlay written notice ten days in advance. A replacement bond has to be on file to keep the license in good standing.
