Before the Atlanta Department of Transportation will qualify a contractor for right of way work, it wants an original performance and completion bond on file. Getting the bond lined up early keeps a driveway apron, sidewalk or utility job from sitting in the permit queue.
The City of Atlanta Department of Transportation requires an original Performance/Completion Bond from contractors applying to be qualified for work in the public right of way. The bond amount equals the value of the proposed work or the cost to restore the right of way to its original condition before work began. The City of Atlanta is the obligee, and the bond is released after a final inspection with all deficiencies corrected.

There is no single flat figure. The ATLDOT Qualified Contractor checklist requires an original Performance/Completion Bond in the amount of the value of the proposed work or the cost to restore the public right of way to its original condition prior to the commencement of work. Price the bond to the job you are permitting.
Any disturbance to the public right of way in Atlanta requires a permit from the Department of Transportation. That includes lane and road closures, driveway apron and sidewalk repairs, and tapping an existing sewer line. Applicants must have the appropriate qualifications for the work, and the Qualified Contractor application is where the bond is filed.
The same checklist asks for a copy of the business license, a certificate of liability insurance naming the City of Atlanta as certificate holder with $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate, a SAVE affidavit with current identification, and a dimensioned drawing of the work area. Sanitary sewer work needs additional plan approvals. The City allows 10 business days for processing once all documents are received.
Under Section 4.2 of the City's Public Right-of-Way Manual, the applicant requests bond release from the Office of Transportation, an inspector performs a final inspection, and every deficiency must be fixed before a release order issues. Section 5.4 lets the City file a claim against the bond when a violation is not resolved in the time allowed. Requirements change, so confirm the current checklist and bond form with ATLDOT before the bond is issued.
