A private auto tag agency in Miami-Dade handles registration and title money that belongs to the state and the county. This bond is what lets the Miami-Dade Tax Collector trust a branch office with that money. You pay a premium instead of tying up cash, and the bond goes straight into the agency file the Tax Collector keeps on you.
The Branch Auto Tag bond is posted by a private auto tag agency that processes vehicle registrations and titles in Miami-Dade County on behalf of the Miami-Dade Tax Collector. Under Florida Statutes 320.03, county tax collectors act as agents of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and private tag agents work under them. The bond guarantees that the agency handles and remits the fees it collects as its agreement with the Tax Collector requires. Confirm the bond amount, form and whether each branch location needs its own bond with the Tax Collector before the bond is issued.

Many applicants assume this bond is filed with a state board the way a dealer bond is. It is not. Florida Statutes 320.03(1) makes each county tax collector an authorized agent of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for registrations and titles. In Miami-Dade, the Tax Collector extends that work to authorized private auto tag agencies, which appear on the Tax Collector's own renewal page as an in-person option for residents. Your agency answers to the Tax Collector, and the bond names the Tax Collector as obligee.
A tag agency collects registration fees, title fees, taxes and plate charges that belong to the state and the county. The bond protects the Tax Collector if the agency fails to account for or turn over that money as required, or otherwise breaches its agent agreement. Section 320.03(8) recognizes private tag agents directly and allows them a pro rata share of certain collected amounts based on the plates and stickers they issue, which is part of why the money handling has to be secured.
The word branch matters. If your agency runs more than one office, ask the Tax Collector whether one bond covers every location or each branch needs its own. Also confirm the required amount and the current bond form, since the amount is set in the agent agreement rather than printed on the public pages.
The premium is a fraction of the bond amount and is set by the surety after reviewing the owners' credit and the agency's financial position. Agencies with strong credit and clean operating history get the best rates.
The Miami-Dade Tax Collector. Under Florida Statutes 320.03, county tax collectors are agents of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and private tag agencies work under the tax collector, so the bond runs to the Tax Collector.
It protects the Tax Collector if your agency fails to account for or turn over the registration, title and tax money it collects, or otherwise breaches the agent agreement.
Ask the Tax Collector before the bond is issued. Coverage per location is set by the agent agreement, so confirm it along with the required amount and form.
The surety prices the bond from the bond amount, the owners' credit and the agency's financial strength. There is no fixed rate for every applicant.
