Concealed Weapon Permit ($100) Bond - Lee County, FL in Florida

Brief Summary

Before buying this bond, check which law your request falls under. The $100 Lee County bond comes from Florida's older county-issued carry permit system. Today the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issues concealed weapon licenses, and the current statute contains no bond requirement.

Florida once required a person seeking a permit to carry a firearm to give a bond payable to the Governor in the sum of one hundred dollars, with sureties approved by the county commissioners. Attorney General Opinion 75-310 confirmed that applicants had to post an actual surety bond, not cash. Current Florida Statute 790.06 replaced that county system. The Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services now issues concealed weapon licenses, valid for seven years, and the statute does not mention a bond. Anyone asked for this bond should confirm with the requesting Lee County office what it is for before it is issued.

Detailed Information About the Florida Concealed Weapon Permit ($100) Bond:

The law changed

The $100 concealed weapon bond belongs to Florida's older permit system. Under the version of section 790.06 discussed in Attorney General Opinion 75-310, issued December 21, 1975, an applicant gave a bond payable to the governor of the state in the sum of one hundred dollars, with sureties approved by the county commissioners. The Attorney General concluded that a cash deposit could not be substituted for the surety bond.

The current text of Florida Statute 790.06 is different. Subsection (1)(b) authorizes the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to issue licenses to carry concealed weapons or concealed firearms. The license is valid statewide for seven years from issuance. The statute sets a nonrefundable new license fee of up to $55 and a renewal fee of up to $45, and it does not mention any bond.
