Gas installers working in Escambia County answer to the county's Contractor Competency Board, and the gas installation contractor bond is part of getting and keeping that standing. Have the bond issued in the exact name on your county application so it is accepted the first time, and pay a yearly premium instead of posting cash.
The Gas Installation Contractor bond is posted by a contractor installing gas piping or gas appliances in Escambia County, Florida, as part of local certification or registration with the county. Escambia County no longer has a separate gas board. Ordinance 2003-37 merged the Board of Gas Examiners into the Escambia County Contractor Competency Board, which now handles applications, exams, certificates and complaints. Confirm the required bond amount, form and filing step with the county contractor licensing office before the bond is issued.

Installers who last dealt with the county years ago may look for the Board of Gas Examiners. It no longer stands alone. Escambia County Ordinance 2003-37 incorporated the Board of Gas Examiners into the membership of the Contractor Competency Board. That board accepts applications and oversees examinations for contractor licensure, reviews qualifications, issues and renews certificates of competency, and investigates complaints and code violations. The board operates under Escambia County Ordinances 77-21, 2003-37 and 2017-63 and Chapter 489 of the Florida Statutes.
The principal is the gas installation contractor, the business or individual that will hold county certification or registration and perform gas work in Escambia County. The bond guarantees that the contractor will follow the county's licensing rules and applicable building and gas codes. If the contractor's violation causes a covered loss, a claim can be made against the bond, and the contractor repays the surety for any valid claim it pays.
Escambia County is the obligee. Before the bond is issued, contact the county contractor licensing office at 850-595-3550 or contractorlicense@myescambia.com to confirm the required bond amount, the bond form, and whether the bond goes in with the Competency Board application or with a permit. Getting those details first avoids a rejected bond.
County standing and state licensing under Chapter 489 are not the same thing. Check whether your scope of gas work also requires a state license through the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Holding one does not automatically satisfy the other.
