Every commercial landfill account in Brevard County needs security, no exceptions. The county sizes it at two months or more of your estimated disposal charges, which for an active hauler is real money. A disposal charges bond, where the county accepts one, covers that security for an annual premium instead.
Brevard County Code Sec. 94-277 requires any commercial entity that disposes of solid waste at county landfill facilities to open a landfill gate account with the Solid Waste Management Department. The county requires security on every account, in an amount sufficient to pay estimated charges for two months or longer as the Director determines. The disposal charges bond guarantees the county will be paid for disposal billed to the account. Confirm with Solid Waste Management that a bond is acceptable and the amount before the bond is issued.

The county's account application is blunt about it. All landfill accounts must have a security deposit, no exceptions. The amount is set after the county reviews your application, and the account agreement calls for enough to pay estimated charges for two months or longer, as the Director determines. Haulers expecting a flat figure are often surprised that the amount scales with their volume.
Under Brevard County Code Sec. 94-277, any commercial entity that disposes of solid waste at the county landfill facilities must set up a landfill gate account. The county describes these accounts as serving businesses bringing in by-products of their own operations and haulers bringing in new construction, demolition or renovation material generated within Brevard County.
Invoices are due within 30 days. After that the account is delinquent, and if it is not paid within 90 days it may go to collection. The county can also discontinue disposal service. If the county draws on the security, the bond pays the unpaid disposal charges up to its amount, and the account holder must repay the surety.
The application describes the security deposit as paid by check or credit card. If you want to use a surety bond instead, call Solid Waste Management at (321) 633-2042 first to confirm the county will accept it and the amount it will require.
