Lochbuie will not issue a peddler or solicitor license without this $1,000 bond. The requirement is written into the town's business license code, so there is no workaround and no waiver on the application. The bond is inexpensive for its size, it is usually issued the same day, and once it is in hand the only remaining steps are the application and the license fee at Town Hall.
The Town of Lochbuie licenses peddlers and solicitors under Code Sec. 6-1-140(9), which states plainly that a bond is required. The bond is $1,000, the Town of Lochbuie is the obligee, and it is filed with the town's business license application. The license fee is set by resolution of the Board of Trustees, and licensed peddlers and solicitors must show their license to any citizen of the town who asks.

The Lochbuie code defines peddling and soliciting broadly. It covers going from place to place, house to house or street to street taking or attempting to take orders for goods, merchandise or personal property of any kind for future delivery, or for services to be performed or furnished in the future. It also covers peddling, selling or offering goods for immediate sale. That means door to door sellers of roofing, solar, pest control, security systems and similar services need the license and the bond, not just people selling products out of a vehicle.
Sec. 6-1-140 makes it unlawful to conduct or engage in the businesses it lists without first obtaining a license and paying the fee. Item 9 covers peddlers and solicitors and ends with the sentence "A bond is required." The application also states that no license will be issued to anyone who is not over the age of eighteen and of good moral character and financial responsibility. Solicitors and peddlers must exhibit their licenses at the request of any citizen of the town.
The bond amount is $1,000 with the Town of Lochbuie as obligee. It guarantees that the licensee will follow the town's licensing ordinance while working in Lochbuie, giving the town and its residents a source of recovery if the licensee does not. The license fee is not fixed in the code. It is set by resolution of the Board of Trustees, so confirm the current fee and the town's preferred bond form with Town Hall before the bond is issued.
The premium is a small charge set by the surety after a review of the applicant's credit and history. Because the bond amount is only $1,000, most applicants are approved quickly.
Yes. The code definition in Sec. 6-1-140(9) expressly includes taking or attempting to take orders for goods for future delivery and for services to be performed in the future. Order takers and door to door service sellers are covered the same as someone selling on the spot.
