Broomfield does not want your bond with the application. The City Clerk approves the application first, then asks for the $1,000 bond and the fees before it releases your license and truck stickers. Having the bond ready on approval day means your trucks can start running that much sooner.
Anyone collecting trash, rubbish or garbage for hire in the City and County of Broomfield needs a hauling license from the City Clerk, and Broomfield Municipal Code 8-04-070 requires every licensee to give the city a $1,000 surety bond. New applicants file the bond after their application is approved, together with the $150 annual fee and a $1.00 sticker for each truck. Every license expires July 31.

Chapter 8-04 of the Broomfield Municipal Code makes it unlawful to engage in the business of collecting trash, rubbish or garbage in the city without a license from the City Clerk. A hauler is defined as anyone who collects, transports or disposes of refuse, recyclables and other discarded materials for someone else, for a fee or for no fee, when that work is not merely incidental to other services. Residents and businesses hauling their own material do not need the license.
Section 8-04-070 makes the licensee solely responsible for disposing of the waste it collects, requires it to hold the city harmless from claims over collection or disposal, and requires a surety bond in the principal amount of $1,000.00 given to the city. The amount is the same for every hauler, whatever the fleet size. Licenses cannot be transferred, so a new owner needs its own license and its own bond.
Apply through the City Clerk's licensing portal and include your rate list, the number of vehicles in your fleet and a description of each. Once the application is approved, submit the fees and the $1,000 bond to the City Clerk's office. The license and a sticker for each truck are issued after that. Broomfield's page says to allow up to three weeks for processing.
The annual fee is $150.00 plus $1.00 per truck sticker. Every license expires on July 31, whatever month it was issued. Renewing licensees file a renewal application, the fees and a current surety bond in the portal before July 31. A new hauler starting partway through the year pays a prorated fee, but never less than half the annual amount under section 8-04-050.
Each truck needs the company name, address and phone number on both sides in letters at least five inches tall, a full cover, and a leakproof body. Licensees also file an annual tonnage report with the Broomfield City and County Clerk by January 31, covering landfill, recycling, compost and other material streams.
Confirm the current bond form with the City Clerk before the bond is issued.
After approval. Broomfield's licensing page says new applicants submit the fees and the $1,000 surety bond to the City Clerk's office once the application is approved, and the license and truck stickers are issued after that.
No. Section 8-04-070 sets one $1,000 bond for every licensee. Fleet size only affects the sticker fees, which are $1.00 per truck.
Every Broomfield hauling license expires on July 31. Renewal applications, fees and a current bond go in through the licensing portal before that date.
It backs the licensee's duty to dispose of what it collects and to hold the city harmless from claims about collection or disposal. If the city has a valid claim, the surety pays up to $1,000 and the hauler repays the surety.
You pay an annual premium that is a percentage of the $1,000 bond amount. The surety sets the rate from the owner's credit and the business's history, so ask for a quote.
