In Jacksonville, a master plumber or gas fitter cannot pull a single permit until the $1,000 bond is delivered to the city and in force. Electrical contractors file the same amount with the City Clerk. It is a small bond that keeps your permits moving.
The Jacksonville Municipal Code requires a $1,000 bond from two groups of contractors. Licensed electrical contractors file it with the City Clerk under section 16.08.100, and every master plumber or gas fitter delivers it to the city under section 16.12.050. No plumbing or gas fitting permit is issued unless the bond is on file and in full force.

Jacksonville does not have one general contractor bond. The $1,000 figure appears in two trade chapters of Title 16 of the city code.
**Electrical contractors.** Section 16.08.100 requires every person or company doing business in the city as a licensed electrical contractor to file a $1,000 bond with the City Clerk, written by a recognized insurance company as surety. The City Clerk approves the bond and the surety. Out of town electrical contractors are covered too. Section 16.08.040 says they must show proof of licensing, pay a $50 electrical contractor's license fee to the City Clerk, and file the bond under section 16.08.100.
**Master plumbers and gas fitters.** Section 16.12.050 requires every master plumber or gas fitter doing business in the city to deliver a $1,000 bond with a surety bonding company to the city.
This is the part that catches people. Under section 16.12.050, no plumbing or gas fitting permit is issued to a master plumber or gas fitter unless the bond has been delivered and is in full force and effect. A lapsed bond stops your permits.
The electrical bond runs to the city, for its own use or that of a citizen damaged by improper electrical work. It is conditioned on strict compliance with city ordinances, doing no work without a permit, and reporting work for inspection. The plumbing and gas bond indemnifies the city or any citizen for damage caused by failure to comply strictly with the plumbing and gas chapter. If the surety pays a claim, it looks to the contractor for repayment.
Confirm the current bond form and filing steps with the City Clerk before the bond is issued.
