Irondale requires an erosion control bond with a land disturbance permit for clearing and grading, and the amount grows with every acre you touch. A surety bond covers that requirement without leaving cash with the city for the life of the job.
The City of Irondale requires an erosion control bond of $3,000 per acre, or any portion of an acre, for clearing and grading under a land disturbance permit. Work in a flood way or flood plain calls for additional security. The bond runs to the City of Irondale and is listed on the permit application alongside any separate Tree Conservation Plan or Landscape Plan bond.

Irondale's Land Disturbance Permit Application states that for clearing and grading an Erosion Control Bond is required in the amount of $3,000 per acre or any portion thereof. A partial acre counts as a full acre, so a 2.5 acre site is bonded as 3 acres, or $9,000.
The same form calls for an additional security bond equal to double the amounts required when the work is in a flood way or flood plain. The application asks whether the property is in a flood plain, so settle that answer and confirm the resulting bond amount with the Inspections Department before the bond is issued.
The city requires a bond for any approved Erosion and Sediment Control Plan, Landscape Plan or Tree Conservation Plan. The application has separate bond amount lines for the Tree Conservation Plan and the Landscape Plan, so one project can carry more than one bond. The city also publishes a Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Cash Bond form for applicants who post cash instead.
The applicant, who certifies on the form that he or she is the owner or is authorized to act as the owner's agent for the work. The City of Irondale is the obligee. The Permit Fee Schedule lists a $40 issuance fee for land disturbance and earthwork permits, plus a fee based on job cost: $40 for $1,000 or less, $80 from $1,001 to $10,000, $120 from $10,001 to $25,000, $200 from $25,001 to $50,000, $250 from $50,001 to $100,000, and $500 from $100,001 to $200,000, with 0.05 percent added above that. Commercial work adds a state craft fee of $1 per thousand of job cost. Disturbing more than an acre adds a $1,500 storm water fee.

The permit application sets the erosion control bond at $3,000 per acre or any portion of an acre for clearing and grading. A site of 1.2 acres is bonded as 2 acres, or $6,000.
Yes. The application calls for an additional security bond equal to double the amounts required when work is in a flood way or flood plain. Confirm the exact figure for your site with the Inspections Department.
Not always. The application also lists separate bond amounts for a Tree Conservation Plan and a Landscape Plan when the city requires those plans.
If the site is one acre or more, the city requires the ADEM NPDES Notice of Registration to be attached to the application.
The city publishes a Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Cash Bond form. A surety bond avoids tying up that cash for the length of the project.
