Expert Surety Bonds Since 2004
This is not a license bond with one statewide amount. The Game Commission sets the performance bond separately for every State Game Lands timber sale, and the bond has to stay in force at least a year past the contract's expiration. A corporate surety bond lets a winning bidder meet that requirement without handing the Commission a certified check for the full amount.
A buyer who wins a Pennsylvania Game Commission timber sale on State Game Lands must furnish a performance bond in the amount stated in that sale's prospectus, payable to the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Recent prospectuses set $8,000 for the Birch Beer sale and $50,000 for the Speed Bump sale. A bond with corporate surety approved by the Attorney General is accepted, with an expiration at least 1 year beyond the timber contract's expiration.

The Game Commission sells timber from State Game Lands by bid, and each sale has its own prospectus. The performance bond amount is printed in that prospectus. For example, the Birch Beer sale on State Game Lands 42 (sale 042-2026-01) called for an $8,000 performance bond, while the Speed Bump sale on State Game Lands 143 (sale 143-2025-02) called for $50,000. Check the prospectus for the sale you are bidding before you order a bond.
Every bid in those prospectuses must come with a $1,000 bid deposit by certified, cashier's or treasurer's check or money order, payable to the Pennsylvania Game Commission. Personal, company and corporate checks and cash are not accepted. If the winning bidder fails within 45 days after presentation to accept and execute the contract and provide the bond, the $1,000 is forfeited as liquidated damages. Unsuccessful bidders get their deposits back once the contract is executed and a satisfactory performance deposit has been furnished.
The prospectus allows a certified check or postal money order drawn to the order of the Pennsylvania Game Commission, negotiable securities including assignment of a bank savings account, a bond with corporate surety approved by the Attorney General, or a bank irrevocable letter of credit. A surety bond or letter of credit must have an expiration date at least 1 year beyond the expiration date of the timber contract. If a contract runs to June 30, 2028, as the Speed Bump contract does, the bond has to run to at least June 30, 2029.
In the Birch Beer sale, 25% of the total bid price is due at contract execution and final payment is due no later than 120 days before the agreement expires. All contractors, subcontractors and consultants of the buyer must be pre-approved by the Commission. Confirm the bond wording and the current form of performance security with the Game Commission before the bond is issued.
It is set sale by sale in the prospectus. Recent examples are $8,000 for the Birch Beer sale on State Game Lands 42 and $50,000 for the Speed Bump sale on State Game Lands 143.
No. The $1,000 bid deposit goes in with your bid by certified, cashier's or treasurer's check or money order. The performance bond is furnished after you win, when you execute the contract.
A surety bond or letter of credit must have an expiration date at least 1 year beyond the expiration date of the timber contract. A one year bond on a multi year contract will not meet that rule.
Yes. The prospectus accepts a bond with corporate surety approved by the Attorney General, as well as a bank irrevocable letter of credit, negotiable securities, a certified check or a postal money order.
If you fail within 45 days after presentation to accept and execute the contract and provide the required bond, the $1,000 bid deposit is forfeited as fully liquidated damages.
